Hemp Bedding is made from the stems and stalks of the hemp plant which make a terrific bedding product. It is far less dusty than pine shavings or wood pellets, holds down the smell tremendously, and doesn’t need to be removed and replaced each week. Just clean out the big poo chucks and toss a little more on top. If you are using it in your chicken coops, about once a year, you can remove all of it and voilà, you have wonderful material for your compost pile.

Yes. and No. You can buy it on Amazon for about $100 a bale plus another $10 shipping or you can purchase it from American Natural Materials for $89 including shipping or you can pick it up at Flower Feather Farm for $72 a bale. I can also ship it to you, but check all three to make sure you get the best price.

That may still feel like a lot, but that 44 pound bale should serve a 10 x 10 chicken coop for about a year. You may need two bales to start if you are have an earth or sand floor. If you are keeping horses on it, you will spend more on bedding, but far less on time and effort mucking out and hauling away spent bedding.

We put the Aubiose Hemp Bedding on the floor in our chicken coops. Weekly we scoop out the large clumps of poo with our handy scooper, and add a bit of fresh bedding on top. Once a year, we empty it all out into out compost pile and start over.

In the goat shelter, we scoop out the soiled bedding once a week and add a little more on top. In a horse stall, you would do this daily.

Just the size of the hemp shives, the individual pieces. You can use either size for your any of your bedding. I use Aubichick in the nesting boxes and Aubiose on the floor.

It is far less work for cleaning, reduces dust and odor, composts quickly, really soft for their feet, and best of all, really dry. I used to use sand but that was so heavy, hemp is much easier to work with.

I do. I use the AubiChick Hemp Bedding in my brooders and I love how clean it keeps their feet. That said, there are others who have reported problems with thread-like fibers from other brands wrapping around the toes, so do be mindful of that.
